Schoolwork is at full steam.

as i frantically try to get myself organised for the year ahead...
i have identified several issues that has to be dealt with at god's speed.

i have not done my holiday homework.
i have not cleared my table since school closed.
i have not changed my blog layout.
i have not gotten my bowling shoes.
i have not started my physical training for the coming fitness test.
i have not settled my..personal issues with a certain individual. :(

while i figure out how i can climb my overwhelming mountain of "have nots"...
let us settled down and plan the year 2005.

yes yes some of u might say.. "whoa siao ah so early its only december sia friend.."
but i have come to realise that planning early does help.
for my case, even planning early does not help at times..what more last minute work eh?

A levels ain't no joke...so as we folks party the december away,
i quietly hide my fear of the coming year.
a not so acedemically inclined me managed a mere borderline pass in the promos,
thus wickedly signalling a tough road ahead.

as some of my close friends might notice,
my digital camera is history with a damaged motherboard and lens,
practically the whole thing...so as such,
i have decided to move on as i always have :)
thanks for the memories..fijifilm finepix.

my intention to switch to film SLR photography is all but a fantasy.
to begin i need a starting capital of say..700 bucks?
plus the money needed to buy and develop the countless rolls of film i'd probably use...
AND the filters needed to create that prefect photograph.
AND also that optional tripod used to hold the camera still...
i'd prob need ard a thousand bucks or 2 to be satisfied..
oh wait i'll never be satisfied...will i?

Just needed a few days for everything to register in me...
the past few weeks have been so jam packed i hardly have time to catch a breath.
thus the UTTERLY late update sophie, sorry just get me some sushi.

So first i went to Phuket for a holiday, came back,
had a soccer tournament, went to Chiangmai for CIP. Phew
Nice 12 days total in Thailand has made me a Thai myself.
I have mastered the art of speaking Thai,
which in most cases it means speaking "gayishly" as my OCIP-mates have discovered.
but don't get me wrong, its a beautiful language, and i would want to learn it soon.

Chiangmai Day 1

Arrived at the airport, met with Joe and his team.
2 trucks took our luggage and us to the village.
Reached La Hu orphange just after sunset, it was all darkness by then.
Tried to interact with the kids in their classroom.
let's see..first person i got to know was..yu nak.
then i got to know surakchai and anan.
and later jatsipa came to sit beside me. :)
for 30 mins i was referring to the blue thai-english manual but yea..not much of use i guess.
i was like i landed on mars.
well at least i got their names and..we'll see how tml la.
Got accomodated in a hut supposedly fot the boys.
Slept on an elevated bamboo platform.
and smart donovan chose a spot just next to the door.
the temperature was...crazily low...
and everytime someone opened the door to go to the toilet,
cold wind rushed in and froze my face.

Chiangmai Day 2

Woke up to a nice remix of fatboy slim's next track titled... Cocks, Dogs, Pigs and Chicks.
The animal farm started playing that track as early as 3 am.
Clocks doesn't seem to work in cold weather i guess.
Brushed my teeth with ice cold stream water, mouth remained numb for a min or so..
After a breakfast of rice with..cabbage soup and another dish a can't remember what..
we were off to the village school and another orphange run by a buddhist monk,
followed by a visit to a huge water collection tank,
which would supply water to the orphanage, if enough money is available for the pipes.

Later that night, the kids would chose their buddies from us 10 OCIPians.
3 would be assigned to each of us..
The three who chose me were Jatsipa, Surasak and Estee (As in Estee Lauder)
These 3 guys are the older boys in the village,
and..they were so shy. it was..funny. :)

Chiangmai Days 3 and 4

The next 2 days were basically interaction with the children,
getting to know your 3 buddies, english lessons, songs...
Peace by the river the classic action song i learnt in NPCC and taught my cadets was quite a hit among the kids...although yea, they din't really learn to sing, just the action was good enuff huh?

Had a campfire on the 4th night and, i must admit our performances aren't that well planned before hand..but we managed a crash course of songs in malay, tamil, chinese and english...just hours before the campfire..and of course our ethnic costumes drew so much laughter. :)

Chiangmai Day 5

It was the last day at the orphanage and boy there were mixed feelings as they always say.
We left all that we have brought for them, the presents, balls, party poppers etc...
and started loading up the trucks that will take us to a refugee camp and the thai border.
I din't see anyone cry though, but i could tell everyone was sad to leave, including myself.
While the younger kids were all over their new found toys and presents,
the older kids gave bear hugs and emotionless looks...
maybe they thought we were coming back soon... :(

So it was time to leave..as the images of waving children grew smaller as the truck left..
the anticipation of our next destination grew bigger.

The temporary refugee camp at the Thai-Myanmar border was our accomodation for the night.
The hospitality of the Shan people from Myanmar was...too good to be true.
The served us their traditional foods, served us more of their food,
cleared up after our meals..man...i felt like a king at times.
3 cheers for the Shan people for making us..at home..

Spent the whole night lying beside the fire and looking the the most amazing sight i've seen since i arrived in Chiangmai.. the sky.
yes..my word i have never in my life seen so many stars at night..let alone shooting stars.
the next morning i was practically seeing stars hurhurhur...

Chiangmai Day 6

Free and easy...
shopping, shopping, shopping...for nothing much actually.
Checked into 7 fountains retreat centre and went to check out chiangmai city's shopping centres and night markets...
din't buy much though..but should hvae gotten myself a pair of slippers ha.
slept at 2am after tai di with my mates..

sorry for the long winded diary account peeps,
wanted to jot down everything before i forget...

this trip has opened my mind to a whole new level.
i had never seen or experience the plight of the orphans and refugees,
but now i am able to share my thoughts on this issue.

i can never put myself in their shoes,
because they have gone through so much...
nothing can ever let me understand their situation fully.

i count myself lucky to be born and brought up in such comfort...
now...when ever i feel down or depressed, or i think nothing worst could happen to me...
i think of these children and refugees...

I've got good and bad news.

BAD news.
My camera is beyond repair.
To replace the impt parts of it would cost $411.26.

Tan Tock Seng hospital.
My mum had a stiff neck so she went to see this sinseh.
Pressed and poked needles all over...and it actually got worst.
My dad was on a company trip to Hong Kong.
I'm da MAN...wadup.
She was on the verge of tears, that's how bad the pain was...
SO..down to the ER we went..yes TTSH A&E.

A Sunday @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital Accident and Emergency.

I don't mean to be negative, but i LOVED being in the ER.
While the Dr Tan was attending to my mum,
my eyes wandered and..it was quite a sight.

An Indian man i suppose on drugs was throwing up,
while doctors tried to help him by givin him a jab,
he shouts KAN NI NA...and F*** pain la. F*** x 10.
Police officers held him down, while the doctors sedated him.
Cool.

A Chinese female ate fish noodles at the observatory ward.
She is flanked by her husband and daughter..bout 12.
Don't know why but i thought of Huang Na.
She is an aged lian u might say...
asks the nurse in mandarin if she could be discharged, she appeared fine.
Nurse says NO. U have suicide tendencies.
Lian says..Where got? I ok already leh.
Another nurse says..we r gonna refer u to IMH.
Apparently the lian downed enuff panadol to deserve an ambulance ride.
Nicely.

A elderly eurasian lady is wheeled in.
as she passed me, she complained to the nurse...
I had a bad fall and now my head hurts...why? WHY?
Head injuries are serious.

CHOMP CHOMP FOOD CENTRE as we all know is located at the heart of serangoon gardens,
and has been my dining choice every other day for the past month.
it has been around for ages and has a rich history,
commoners young and old flock to this amazing place for excellent local dishes..
i consider eating at chomp chomp an art..an art worth sharing.

The Art of Chomping by donovan foo

1. To spend or not to spend.
Do not hesitate to empty yr pockets on food. its sinful :)
Nothing less than 10 bucks will do..for me that is.
I spend most of my money on food and nothing else.

2. Get to know the shop owners.
When ordering food, seduce them with shy smiles and a sexy poise.
This work really well on the sugercane juice owner.
When in a large group, free drinks may appear, on the house.

3. Its a jungle out there.
Go early to avoid peak hour human traffic.

A. If you're looking for a seat...
Stand next to a table, fold yr arms while tapping yr leg.
Look at the person/s eating..and smile. :)

B. If you are already seated...
Sit down and put a packet of tissue paper on the adjacent seat.
If an auntie comes up to yr table and does the same in point A,
Continue holding the chopstick although there's no more food,
nibble the straw and suck up air from the empty glass.
Talk and laugh as loud as you can, look up at her at times..and smile. :)

4. Food for thought.
There is a wide array of food to chose from at chompz,
But i highly recommend this configuration..

Concert was the best i've ever seen in a school.

Just The Two Of Us.
Drama peep's play was great. Seriously.
Actually it was the first play i've ever been to so, whatever.

Friday:

National Day Celebrations @ CJC. The usual national songs and parade in the morning.
Jerome, Kenny, Stanley and I would have done a better job marching, sial.
Mini-parade was cool. Dance club chicks blew me away, thankfully without a boner, ahem.

Interclass bowling @ Victor's Superbowl soon after.
Seems like we've got back in time, 70's retro styled bowling alley.
Nevertheless bowled like a dick.
SZ cornerz came in 8th out of 21. We'll be back next year.
With some adjustments of course.
I thank Brandon and Jeremy for the company.

Saturday:

Flag day. Again. Buddhist Free Clinic.
This time we didn't even try to get donations.
Ok maybe i'm being too honest here, but yea.
To put it bluntly, we slacked the 4 hours away.
Warcraft 3 @Alfred's place where Peh Siang showed me stategy.
Pool at Hougang Green.
Returning the donation cans was, not easy.
Especially one which was filled with, what 5 coins?
The nun at the collection centre actually made us feel guilty.
For 2 seconds...at we were off to watch M. Night Shayamalan's
THE VILLAGE.

Afternoon was spent at the library.

Fascinating shit, which reminded me of Armageddon.
yup, the best movie known to me.
Prime Minister Goh's National Day Rally was, emotional.
Stirred up the patriotic elements diffused in my Singaporean blood.
Mr Goh, you have rocked Singapore's socks.
Now its time for Hsien Loong and Co to race out of their starting blocks
To bring us to great heights, instead of just talking cock.

what a day. GP and Math tests wiped out my brain cells. Totally.
Still managed play some football. 3 straight days in fact.

BBQ @ Geylang was a blast althought little faces showed up.
A diet of hot dogs, chicken thighs and mice food would certaintly plump me up :)

This is what a 1T29 GP lesson produces when Miss Nathan teaches:

Alfred had something to say but he said it was a shocking piece of information.

He stood in front of the class for a long period of time. He was blushing very badly. The boys at the back of the class were giggling.

All of a sudden, 3 hooded men bearing AK-47s came barging in the class door, screaming random words in Hokkien. We got down on out stomachs, hearts pumping like there was not tommorrow. Maybe there was no tommorrow.

Then, one of the hooded men walked towards Miss Nathan(who was shivering at the back of the class) and told her, "I'm urgent..." Miss Nathan was petrified, not knowing what that meant, not knowing what to say. The man continued by asking, "Where's the toilet?"

Sent on their way, the 3 hooded men left for the toilet, taking 3 girls with them. The whole class was stunned. Miss Nathan, knocked out by a sharp jab to the head, could not help. Suddenly, a voice rang out! "Mai Xia Lan...!"

In a mist of smoke, Super Alfred sprang out of nowhere, appearing in a purple skin tight suit with red briefs on the outside.

Super Alfred shouted in a cool firm voice, "Hey man that's not cool!". He whipped out his elephant trunk (a secret weapon codenamed Albert) and used it to wallop the 3 hooded men. After some action, Super Alfred subdued and bounced them around the class.

After which, our class bouncer(Zhen Qiang), took out his pogo-stick and chased the 3 hooded men out of the class. In unison, the whole class erupted into a frenzy and cheered our heros. As abruptly as it started, Super Alfred's elephant trunk, Albert, shrunk to 1/3 its original size, to which it now resembled a ring worm. Again in unison, the class groaned in dismay.

Seeing that Super Alfred has lost his tool of intimidation, the 3 men returned and started spraying bullets at the class.

In light of the current situation, a voice rang out from the corner of the class, "..Ya Saaaaa!!!!". Heads turned and to our delight, a samurai dawning a golden armour stood on Jiwei's table. Jiwei was nowhere to be seen. The samurai's eyes look droopy, with the rest of his face hidden behind a black cloth wrapped around his head.

In one single motion, the samurai side-stepped into the path of the 3 hooded men. With countless swings of his samurai sword made possible in one movement, the 3 hooded men lay moaning on the floor, limbless. The samurai made it look easy. Someone please complete the story?

This passage was written by students of 1T29 during a GP lesson as an exercise conducted by Miss Nathan.

In conclusion, one can see how different minds put together can form a stoopid yet interesting story. Cheers!
